Comparing Indonesia's Role in the D-8 and G20 in Navigating the Global Economy
Indonesia is set to solidify its leadership on the global stage as it officially takes over the chairmanship of the Developing-8 (D-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation for the 2026–2027 period. Jakarta has been selected to host the 12th D-8 Summit in April 2026, themed "Navigating Global Shifts."
This chairmanship serves as a strategic momentum for Indonesia to strengthen economic diplomacy and collective bargaining power among developing nations. With a focus on five priority agendas, Indonesia aims to bolster the economic resilience of Muslim-majority nations and foster solidarity across the Global South. Ambassador Tri Tharyat emphasized that this role is a vital tool for promoting equality and concrete economic cooperation amidst current geopolitical uncertainties.
