As the Chair of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic
Cooperation (D-8) for the 2026–2027 period, Indonesia holds a strategic role in
steering the organization’s future. Under the theme “Navigating Global Shifts:
Strengthening Equality, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity,”
Indonesia is prioritizing institutional transformation to ensure the D-8
becomes more effective, efficient, and highly competitive amidst a rapidly
evolving global landscape.
This transformation beyond administrative changes; it is a
profound effort to bolster the international standing of the eight member
states (Bangladesh, Egt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey,
and Azerbaijan) through several strategic pillars:
- 1. Prioritizing the Halal Economic
Architecture
2. Strengthening South-South Solidarity
- Enhance
market connectivity among member countries.
- Build
robust solidarity to withstand economic uncertainties.
- Ensure
every member state gains equitable benefits from the collaboration.
3. Digitalization and Research Acceleration
The Ultimate Goal: Global Competitiveness
Through this institutional overhaul, Indonesia seeks to
ensure that the D-8 can respond to both internal and external dynamics with
greater agility. By strengthening connectivity and inclusive cooperation, the
position of these developing nations will turning the organization's
vision of shared prosperity into a tangible reality.
Indonesia’s 2026–2027 Chairmanship marks a pivotal momentum
for the D-8 to evolve—from a consultative platform into a more integrated and
influential economic force on the global stage.
