The Government of the Republic of Indonesia has officially unveiled the logo for Indonesia’s Chairmanship of the Developing Eight (D-8) for the 2026–2027 term. The launch forms part of a broader series of preparations leading up to the 12th D-8 Summit, scheduled to take place in Jakarta in April 2026.
The unveiling of the logo marks the beginning of Indonesia’s public communication efforts regarding its role as Chair. This visual identity will be used throughout all official D-8 activities during Indonesia’s chairmanship, both domestically and internationally.
The government considers this step essential to strengthening the organization’s visibility while introducing the policy direction Indonesia intends to advance during its leadership of the forum.
Indonesia’s chairmanship carries the theme, “Navigating Global Change: Strengthening Equality, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity.” The theme reflects Indonesia’s focus on responding to rapidly evolving geopolitical and geoeconomic dynamics.
The government has emphasized that its leadership will aim to reinforce solidarity among countries of the Global South and promote more concrete economic collaboration among member states.
The Compass as a Symbol of Direction and Hope
The chairmanship logo combines the symbol of the Nusantara compass with an element of guiding light, or jyoti. The compass represents strategic orientation and direction, while the light signifies hope and a commitment to providing guidance in navigating global change.
Eight star-shaped elements arranged in a unified configuration symbolize the eight D-8 member states. Their formation reflects a shared determination to strengthen economic integration, enhance connectivity, and foster mutually beneficial growth.
Through this visual identity, the government hopes to reinforce the collective identity of D-8 and enhance public awareness of the organization at both national and international levels.
The Developing Eight is an economic cooperation forum comprising eight developing countries, established with the aim of enhancing their position in the global economy.
Within this context, Indonesia views its role as Chair not merely as an administrative responsibility, but as an opportunity to advance strategic agendas aligned with the needs and priorities of member states.
Indonesia’s Policy Direction within D-8
In his 2026 Annual Press Statement, Minister for Foreign Affairs Sugiono highlighted the increasingly complex and unpredictable global environment. He underscored the importance of diplomacy that is responsive, adaptive, and grounded in both national and collective resilience. This approach underpins Indonesia’s policy direction across various international forums, including D-8.
Indonesia assesses that geopolitical pressures, global economic uncertainty, and fragmentation within the international system require more inclusive forms of cooperation.
Through D-8, Indonesia seeks to expand its strategic space among developing countries while reinforcing solidarity within the Global South. The forum is regarded as a platform to advance shared interests, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, food security, energy, and sustainable development.
This commitment aligns with Indonesia’s broader efforts to strengthen multilateralism and South–South cooperation. The government believes that collaboration among developing nations can serve as an important instrument for maintaining stability and promoting more equitable economic growth.
A Results-Oriented Agenda
As Chair of D-8 for 2026–2027, Indonesia has affirmed its commitment to advancing cooperation that delivers tangible outcomes. Key priorities include strengthening economic interaction among member states, generating shared added value, and increasing the participation of the business community.
The government aims to ensure that all chairmanship initiatives produce concrete and sustainable benefits. This approach encompasses trade facilitation, supply chain strengthening, investment promotion, and enhanced private sector collaboration.
Indonesia is also encouraging broader engagement from business actors to ensure that intergovernmental cooperation translates into real economic activity.
With the launch of the official logo and the formal introduction of its chairmanship theme, Indonesia has signaled its readiness to lead D-8 during a period considered critical for the global economy. The government hopes that its leadership will reinforce D-8’s role as a relevant and effective forum in advancing the shared interests of its member states.
